How did you become a Fertility Counselor?

There was a commercial (I think it was “Hair Club for Men” that said, I’m not only the President {of the company} but I’m also a client. For me, my journey through the process included secondary infertility, several miscarriages, chemical pregnancies, failed IVF with my own eggs, fostering a child, IVF with donor eggs, and a stillbirth before I was able to complete my family. As with anyone who has struggled with family building, it took a lot out of me psychologically. As I was living through this time, I came to realize how important the help of a good therapist was to giving me the perspective and strength to push through the sadness, loss, and anxiety that this process brings. My experience motivated me to pursue this kind of therapy as a specialty.

Professionally, I completed my master’s program with a cumulative body of research on trauma related to infertility. I have hosted support groups for RESOLVE as well as through my own practice, co-authored papers, and I have guest lectured on infertility and fertility trauma to university students and alumni. I am a member of the American Society of Reproductive Medicine as well as the American Society of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists.
